Have you ever heard of the "Ozempic personality"?

One of the main reasons Ozempic and other medications are so effective is because in addition to your stomach, they target your brain.

While this is a good sign for weight loss, some users are concerned that the impact of this medication also means unwanted changes in their mood and personality.

First, doctors are seeing personality and mood changes in only a very small number of patients. And the most common emotional and psychological changes seem to be positive, from an elevated mood because blood sugar is more stable, to a higher libido, to a clearer mind.

On the other hand, while there is no scientific evidence of negative effects, there is some anecdotal evidence linking GLP-1 and a decreased enthusiasm for activities you once enjoyed. GLP-1 users have also reported a decrease in libido, irritability, and being more quiet or monotonous, according to experiences shared in a Reddit post.

Here's what you need to know about Ozempic's potential impact on your personality.

Ozempic and GLP-1 mimic a hormone found in both the gut and the brain, which means they can have an impact on your mental health. They work partly because they make you feel fuller for longer by slowing down the digestion process, but also because they likely regulate the 'satiation center' in your brain (known to scientists and doctors as the hypothalamus).

It is worth reporting any mood changes to your doctor.

Again, this is not a common side effect. But if you are experiencing negative mood or personality changes, talk to your doctor as soon as possible.
