At Tony Robbins' annual seminars and conferences, he is always asked by his audience what the secrets are to effectively setting goals and achieving them. "You need a broad vision and an achievable plan at the beginning of each year," he says.
But it has been observed that in the first few weeks of February, most people give up on their New Year's resolutions. Why is this? "Because they are not your real goals," says Robbins. "You didn't think them through. It was New Year's Eve, everyone was talking about them, and you, influenced by what was happening around you, thought about some things you would like to do or change. But they were not your real goals, which you would achieve no matter what."
So, to set and achieve goals as effectively as possible, follow Tony Robbins' strategies, while you still have time:
1. Don't forget: The pursuit of the goal is just as important as the goal itself
"The essence of any goal we set for ourselves is not achieving that goal, but the person we become along the way," says Robbins.
2. Set goals with a specific scope of implementation
Try to set goals that can be reasonably achieved within a year; or, if your goal takes longer to achieve, try to break down what you want to achieve in the first year and beyond.
3. Focus on what you want, not what you don't want.
A big mistake people make when setting their goals is that they focus on what they don't want and not on what they really want to achieve.
4. Don't stop even after you've achieved your goal.
It's simple: Always achieve goals. Never stop.
Tony Robbins quotes: “When you are nearing the end of accomplishing a goal, you have to start tackling the goals that come after it, because otherwise you will have a drop in energy.”
5. Don't worry even if you don't achieve your goals.
Robbins strongly supports the idea that it doesn't matter if the goal is not achieved; what matters is the growth of the individual in the process. “Progress and growth are what make us feel alive,” Robbins says. “Either we grow, or we die. That's life.”
Just remember: Growth comes in different forms for different people. Try to discern which form of growth is most valuable to you and go for it.
