From a dream vacation to a real nightmare.
This 'adventure' was narrated by the couple Jay and Jill Campbell , who told 'KSNB4' how to this day they are stranded on the island with no money and no help, along with 6 other tourists. They were abandoned on the coast of the island of São Tomé , in central Africa, from the tourist ship.
We were visiting the island, but then we had a problem and didn't get back in time. We were convinced that they would come back for us, especially knowing that there was a pregnant woman among us, but no one remembered. To this day we are stuck here, - said the elderly Campbell couple.
After realizing the crew was not returning, the visitors tried to contact the Coast Guard for help, but the ship refused to return for them. As a result, they are now left on the island with no personal belongings, no money and no medicine, which remained in their cabins.
The Norwegian company 'Cruise Line' declared its position on the incident:
'On the afternoon of March 27, eight passengers, who were on the island either alone or with a private guide, missed their last chance to return to the ship. They did not respect the departure time, which was set at 15:00. It is their responsibility to return to the ship at the appointed time, which is communicated through the ship's radio, daily communications and also posted shortly before disembarking from the ship. We are in contact with them and will provide more information as soon as we have it.'
