Lionel Messi knows how to write history! The Argentine has won the "Golden Ball" for the 8th time. This award comes after he won the World Cup in Qatar with Argentina. He currently plays in America with Inter Miami.

In a ceremony that took place in Paris, Messi received the trophy amid much applause.

"It's a pleasure to be here once again to enjoy this moment," said Messi.

He was the main candidate to win this award. The main rival was the Norwegian Erling Haaland, the latter the best scorer of the Premier League, champion of England with Manchester City, winner of the FA Cup and of course triumphant in the Champions League. The Norwegian striker won the top scorer award.

Aitana Bonmati won the Ballon d'Or for women. The 25-year-old won the Champions League and Spanish championship with Barcelona last season plus the World Cup with Spain.

Bellingham won the Kopa trophy for the best young player. Aston Villa's Argentinian goalkeeper Emniliano Martinez won the best goalkeeper award.

Manchester City won the best men's team award, while the women's award went to Barcelona.
