How to do a vaginal self-examination?
The first step to conducting a successful self-examination is to make sure you are properly organized. Make sure you have a large mirror, gloves, good lighting and privacy.
A healthy vagina can vary from person to person. Focus on three main things when it comes to a healthy vagina: appearance, smell and pain.
The exterior
"Normally, the vagina is pink. During the reproductive years, a healthy vagina has pink vaginal mucus, good moisture, and a small amount of discharge that is odorless and clear to white in color."
Young

The scent may become stronger at certain times, such as after sex, during or after menstruation, or after exercise. But while some individuals may become self-conscious about their personal scent, there is never a need to try to change it.
Pain

If there is any pain during sexual activity with a partner, you may also want to communicate with them. It could simply be a matter of a partner not knowing or understanding what your body wants and likes. But in general, pain during sex is not standard.
