According to a (confusing) study, guys who choose to have their first dates in good places have a more long-term commitment to your relationship than those who 'spend a lot'.
WhatsYourPrice.com, an online dating site where users can make dating suggestions, conducted a two-year study with their American male members to determine the correlation between first date spending and relationship outlook.
Men spend an average of $80 on a first date. But in this study, guys who spent three times as much ($240 or more) increased their odds of being in a serious relationship by 34 percent. And guys who spent under $80 were more likely to be 'sexually promiscuous' than those who decided to pay a bit more.
"The amount a man spends on a first date shows his level of sincerity towards building a serious/lasting relationship," says Brandon Wade, founder and CEO of WhatsYourPrice.com
"This does not mean that men should always spend the same amount as on a first date. However, it is a necessary step to show that they have financial security and are therefore stable mates."
Careful! Even if he spends more than $80 on your first date, it doesn't necessarily mean he wants something serious with you.
In a subjective opinion, I'd like to be treated well, but still if a guy spent close to $300 on a first date, I'd think he was just trying to value money over other feelings and the goal would become unclear :).
