Actress Deepika Padukone has been appointed the first Indian ambassador of the Louis Vuitton brand, the French luxury house announced on Tuesday.

The 36-year-old Bollywood actress's new role was revealed as part of a new bag campaign, where she joins Emma Stone and Chinese actor Zhou Dongyu in a series of promotional photos.

In addition to being regularly photographed with Louis Vuitton sportswear and bags, Padukone has previously modeled for the brand. In 2020, she became the first Indian actress to appear in a campaign for the luxury brand, posing for a vintage book cover, alongside stars like Léa Seydoux and Sophie Turner.

"After a strong working relationship with Maison ... the award-winning actress begins an exciting new chapter of her journey with Louis Vuitton," the fashion house announced in a press release.

Padukone has appeared in over 30 feature films, including "Padmaavat", one of the highest grossing Indian films of all time. She was recently named as part of the 9-person jury at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and won about $ 6 million in 2019, according to the latest edition of Forbes India's 100 list of celebrities.

Padukone has recently starred in campaigns for companies like Levi's and Adidas, however her partnership with Louis Vuitton marks her first ambassadorial role for a luxury brand.
