In the future, we are likely to face a coronavirus mutation as contagious as "Omicron" and deadly as "Delta", warned German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach.
Lauterbach calls on fellow citizens not to remain indifferent to the pandemic and to take special care with the necessary measures. However, he added that although coronavirus cases are declining, the virus is changing, so we need to be vigilant. As for the "Omicron" mutation, the minister claims that the German health authorities will be able to produce a vaccine specially adapted for this variant from September.
However, according to him, the constant mutation of the virus is making it increasingly difficult to develop the "Omicron" vaccine. Because of this, as he points out, it is very likely that in the future we will encounter a variant that is as contagious as Omicron and deadly as Delta.
"This would be an absolutely deadly option," the Social Democrat minister said in an interview with Bild newspaper.
It is worth noting that in Germany about three quarters of the population have already been vaccinated against Covid-19. According to the country's health authorities, about a quarter of Germans have been diagnosed with coronavirus.
