The Vatican is investigating how the Pope's official Instagram account "liked" a photo of a Brazilian model dressed in provocative clothes.
A post by model and blogger Natalia Garibotto in early October - who appeared wearing clothes similar to a school uniform, exposing her body - was liked by the Pope's official account, @franciscus .
The photo was inscribed with a devil horn emoji, along with the words: "I can teach you one or two things."
On November 14, a day after the Catholic News Agency reported on the scandal and asked the Holy See for comment, a "like" was removed. It is unclear when the Pope's account liked the photo.
The CNA announced on Tuesday that an investigation is currently underway inside the Vatican to determine how this "like" occurred.
Although a team of staff manages the Pope's Instagram account, a representative from the Holy See told The Guardian that they confirmed that no staff member liked the "dangerous photo". They also turned to Instagram for explanations.
Instagram has not yet reacted to this publicly.
Shortly after the incident went viral, Garibotto joked on Twitter, writing: "At least I'll go to heaven."
