Fox News has officially cut ties with Fox & Friends First presenter Heather Childers, which sparked controversy after she went to work even though she was ill. It is about the month of March, when the pandemic had just erupted in the US.
"Fox News and Heather Childers have broken off the relationship," confirmed Fox News spokeswoman Caley Cronin, who said staff wished her all the best while giving no further details.
According to CNN, Childers, who has been Fox's morning presenter since 2012, was asked to stay home after she fell ill on March 18 while she insisted she had no coronavirus. She returned to work again the next day, being sent home again as it was clear even on camera that she was ill. After this time, the presenter did not return to the broadcast.
In several Twitter posts on March 27, Childers admitted he had a cough and sneeze a week ago while on the air, but denied having any other symptoms of COVID-19.
"I went to see a doctor and the doctor told me everything was normal," she wrote.
Three days later, the presenter posted a video with her negative COVID-19 results, announcing that she was not affected by the coronavirus. She added that when she went to work she did not feel sick and had no worries.
She publicly asked President Trump on Twitter for permission to return to work, as she was good and negative towards Covid-19. However, there seems to be no turning back after Fox News's decision to fire him.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Childers started working for Fox News in October 2010.
