New Year's Eve is widely celebrated around the world and is a day when everyone strives to forget all the stress and have a good time in the company of loved ones. Among the many traditions that accompany this holiday, such as baklava, turkey and table topping with good food, there are also many superstitions that we unwittingly believe. We've heard some superstitions from grandmothers, others we've borrowed from various places around the world, but many people respect them. What are some of these superstitions that people believe in as the years change?
Cooking lentils
The superstition of cooking lentils comes from Italy and symbolizes coins, as in Roman antiquity a lentil bag was always donated, hoping to be converted into coins.
Opening a pomegranate grain
An open pomegranate grain and placed on the home table is thought to bring prosperity. The Greeks think this fruit is good for the start of the year. They slam the pomegranate into the main door of the house and the more grains come out of it, the happier the year will be.
Consumption of grapes
In Spain, people consume 12 grains of R Year Night grapes, one grain per month. According to them, this fruit symbolizes abundance.
Round fruits
In some other countries, mainly in the Philippines, the table is filled with round fruits, as this is the form of coins and is supposed to bring in revenue.
kiss
Another thing to think of as a good prospect is to exchange a kiss at midnight.
Opening a bottle of champagne
Champagne is also bringing prosperity, so be sure to open a bottle of champagne at midnight to celebrate New Year's arrival.
But what are the things we shouldn't do on the night of the year, as they are thought to bring bad luck?
The New Year doesn't have to find you in debt
Many people think that if the New Year finds you in debt, you will also spend the next year borrowing.
Don't finish the whole plate
The New Year should find you with the table full, so be careful to leave something on the plate and not consume it all before the time is 00:00.
Don't expect bananas
Bananas are thought to bring bad luck. If you have them at home, do not wait for them or consume them on New Year's Eve, leave them for the next day (always if you are superstitious).
Other foods that should be avoided are winged things, like chicken, as fate is thought to fly away if you consume them. Likewise, arragosta should not be consumed, since it goes backwards and so can your luck of the year.
