Some people are used to the idea that socks at home are a must. But they are divided into two parts when it comes to sleep: some sleep with socks, others without socks. Some think sleeping with socks is a way to protect your feet from the cold, but the other protects them from sweating. What is the response of specialists?

Wearing socks at home helps you not only to keep your feet warmer, but also to help your heels not crack. Cold weather, as it is known, greatly affects the drying of the skin and this also applies to the toes. Walking barefoot at home causes the skin to dry faster, even leading to heel cracks. Wearing socks creates a barrier between the feet and the floor, thereby keeping the skin of the feet moist.

Other reasons:

Warm feet warm the whole body

Socks create a shield that helps against foot pain

The legs are cleaner

A recent study by the National Sleep Foundation, published on sleep.org, lists the reasons why sleeping in socks is a good way to keep your body warmer and more comfortable at night.

While the legs are warm, blood flow to the veins is easier and this sends a sleep signal to the brain. Once the blood vessels are open and the heat is distributed throughout the body, the latter is ready for sleep, experts explain.

Advice:

Use a heavy blanket or quilt to create warmth more quickly.

Use a warming pillow for your feet before bedtime.

Usually I use wool or cashmere socks, which provide a quick warm-up.

I always wear socks at home.
