One day (albeit on a distant day) Prince William will be crowned king of England. When Queen Elisabeth is no longer present, Prince Charles will become king and will succeed Prince William as his eldest son. This we know, what many people do not know is what title Kate will receive when her husband takes the throne.

Apparently, Kate is going to become queen, but there is a hitch in all of this. In England there are two types of queens, the throne queen and the queen consort. Kate will be the second for a simple reason, the queen title belongs only to the women and girls who inherit the title, while the conjugal queen title is used for women marrying male heirs to the title of king.

However, there is a time until the day comes when we call Kate Queen Catherine.

The question may naturally arise: But why does the queen's husband, Prince Philip, not hold the title of king? Well, the rules change when it comes to royal women whose husband cannot get the title. However, in 1957, Queen Elisabeth conferred the title of prince on her husband.

Since we are on protocol exemptions, not even Camila, Charles' wife will be called queen when he assumes the title of king. This is because Camila is Prince Charles' second wife and has not been a favorite of the English since the drama with Princess Diana. When Charles becomes king, Camila will be called "Princess Wife".
