Here it is again, date 13 and Friday. This time also refers to a special natural phenomenon that is closely related to the moon. Also called the Harvest Moon is what will illuminate the night of September 13 - a special night not only for the Moon but also with the date.
If you are superstitious and worried about this union and the history behind it, you are not alone. Friday the 13th, since years before Christ's birth, has been considered one of the most unfortunate days of the year. For many, this is the biggest nightmare that can happen in a calendar year. For 2019, this is the first Friday of the 13th, but will be repeated on the 13th of December. However, along with the natural phenomenon of the Full Moon, this Friday has not been postponed since October 13, 2000 and will not be repeated until August 13, 2049.
But what kind of symbolic is Friday the 13th?
Psychologists know this phenomenon and have defined this feeling in one word - paraskavedekatriaphobia (Greek: Friday the 13th phobia), or otherwise the fear of the Friday the 13th.
One option to avoid all of a sudden is to go to bed all day on Friday, according to psychologists, or to do what many other people do - ignore superstition and do the same things as usual.
A numbers game?
The origin of Friday, the 13th, and considering it an unlucky day, is in fact an ancient mystery.
The number 13 has been considered an unlucky number for many years, even before the birth of Christ. Unlike number 12, which is historically known as the number of fullness (12 months of the year, 12 gods of Olympus, 12 hours of time, 12 tribes of Israel, 12 apostles of Jesus, 12 descendants of Muhammad ...), his neighbor, 13, has always been seen as an exception.
But the 13th also has an unfortunate Bible reference. Judas, the apostle who betrayed Jesus Christ, is supposed to be the 13th guest at his dinner. Christ was crucified on Friday.
In the 14th century, Geoffrey Chaucer referred to Friday as an unfortunate day: "A lucky Friday."
Another fact that highlighted Friday's superstition was the publication of Thomas W.'s novel. Launches, 1907, Friday. The novel focuses on superstition, but also the panic created on Wall Street for Friday the 13th.
In numerology, too, 13 is considered an irregular number and is the number used by witches for their meetings.
In many western countries, buildings avoid the 13th floor. Likewise, many homes, but also hotels, often lack the number 13. This is also the case of Carlton in London, which has not listed the thirteenth floor.
